VHF Radio Procedures
A vhf radio is an essential piece of equipment needed for safely kayak fishing
It may not necessarily be you in trouble but you may be calling for help for someone else
Needing assistance .It is your link to help if you should need it.
Using the correct procedures saves time and gives the coastguard all the information he needs to initiate a rescue or assistance.
Always check your radio is in working order and at full power before you go out.
Below there are examples of the main procedures you will use feel free to print them
And learn these procedures.
MAYDAY

Use "May Day" when imminent danger threatens life or property and immediate assistance is required An example could be a paddler in the water unable to get back into his kayak through injury or illness |
Transmit at high power on
Channel 16 Most radios will Automatically switch to high power for
Ch 16.

PAN-PAN
|
Use Pan-Pan when the safety of a person or vessel is in jeopardy but the danger is not life threatening |
Transmit at high
power on Channel 16 Most radios will Automatically go to high
power for Ch 16.
