Deck Loop Fittings
This is my review of the new 2011 The fatyak kaafu.
The first thing you notice as you take it out of the bag is the superb moulding and fittings they are all of the highest standard the kayak has sleek and stylish lines with 4 moulded in carrying handles so it’s a breeze to move around and put on the car on your own
The positions of the handles need special mention they are superbly positioned and balanced for easy handling and transport there are 14 various loop style fixtures each one is securley attached via brass moulded insert and stainless steel hex bolts.
The cockpit has 2 large rubber hatches which stayed dry
during our tests.
we put some tissue paper in each hatch when we inspected them
5 hours later there was no water ingress at all.
Each hatch has a moulded in deep bowl really handy for car keys
mobile phones ect
The rear well has a handy defined ridge around the top
and bungee cord straps for crates ect
A Paddle keeper is also included on both
sides
Each of the flush mount rod holders have rounded moulded bottoms and a rubber cap and gasket so no chance of any water leaking in through these rod holders
All the fittings use a captulated brass sealed bottom insert and stainless steel hex bolts
The cockpit layout is well designed with plenty of leg
room an easy to reach and access hatch and folding loop fixings so
you won’t catch your hands while paddling.
on the centre console there is a raised rectangle area with
thicker plastic for a Scotty rod rest to be fixed if desires in
front of that there is also another raised mounting area for
a fish finder to be mounted
the bow has an upward curl to it this helps to ride the waves and keep the water outside the kayak
On the hull you can see all 6 well defined scuppers the
sharp chines of the kayak and a raised skeg area this really helps
with the tracking of the kayak .
the front 2 scuppers are deep enough to allow a transducer to be
fitted in to them
The fatyak kaafu is a superb kayak with lot’s of
cleverly designed features on our tests we found it a very dry ride
the only water we had in the cockpit area was from paddle drip’s
the hatches were dry and fixtures well placed .
The kayak tracked well and paddled really easily this is a very
responsive kayak it’s also very easy to handle and put on the roof
rack due to the fixed balanced handles. the recommended retail of
the bare kayak is around £300 so this is a very affordable option
and sure to become a favourite amongst us kayak
